In India, access to basic resources such as computers, phones, and digital education remains low across most parts of the country. As per ASER 2024, India's most comprehensive citizen-led education survey, 89% of children between the age of 14 -16 have access to a smartphone at home, but only 57% use the smartphone for educational purposes. As few as 31.4% of students own a personal smartphone, but the rest have no access to a phone or to online educational material.
This disparity is worse in the field of digital skills learning, especially coding. A joint program conducted by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Pratham Education Foundation found that digital literacy in rural India is as low as 25%. To resolve this issue, the government of India has introduced initiatives such as NITI Aayog's Atal Innovation Mission, that have established about 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs across 722 districts, enabling 1.1 crore students to explore robotics, coding, and electronics courses through hands-on learning. Despite this improvement and progress, access to these resources still remains out of reach for most students enrolled in Indian schools. According to NASSCOM reports, in coming years India is expected to have a demand for 5 million technology professionals. However, the numbers of trained professionals still fall short of meeting this need, and employability surveys continue to show that most of the engineering graduates start their careers without any practical experience.
Founded in 2026, Full STACK is a social initiative dedicated to providing opportunities to students from economically disadvantaged communities to gain access to robotics, computer science and practical STEM education. Through coding manuals, basic programming concepts, mentorships, equipment toolkits, and workshops, it will aim to bridge the gap between students' curiosity and learning opportunity, by enabling them to gain the required skills and confidence for their growth and future career.
